Why choose this course

The course looks at Results-Based Management and Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation from the point of view of managers of projects, programmes and services. It is designed primarily to help managers to identify, plan, monitor and evaluate work in organisations that have adopted – or are adopting – RBM and RBME.

The course will help you understand the rationale for RBM and RBME and how these systems work. It will then introduce a structured process for formulating relevant and viable projects, programmes or services within those systems. It will help you to design the all-important monitoring and framework and implementation plan that will ensure your project, programme or service delivers value and feeds back into organisational learning both at the operational level (“doing the things right”) and the strategic level (“doing the right things”).

What you will learn

Through short presentations, discussions and practical case study work, you will improve your knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • The rationale for and main features of RBM
  • How planning, monitoring and evaluation at project and programme level relate to organisation-wide RBM
  • How to identify, design and plan projects and programmes which align with the RBM system.
  • How to monitor and evaluate these projects and programmes both for their own benefit and for use by the RBM stakeholders.

  • The major part of the course focuses on monitoring and evaluation, because that, managers tell us, is where there is the greatest learning need. But in RBM, monitoring and evaluation’s link to planning is particularly important.

The 9 day version of the course will include case work built around a visit to an organisation with experience of RBM. Evaluation exercise as well as a knowledge management session delivered by the HIV/AIDS Alliance.

What our participants say

“It’s such a wonderful experience being trained by IMA trainers. The knowledge gained is in-depth and the quality of the trainers is hard to come by.”

Belema Iyella, RSSDA, Nigeria

“The quality of the materials and the friendliness of the facilitators is exemplary. The infusion of assignments and action plan provides opportunity to participants to begin to undertake personal development and self monitoring of their learnings after the training. This is an important advantage."

Ilusanya Gboyega, ESSPIN, Nigeria
