Consultant and Course Trainer
Dakoru Atukpa works with IMA and other international & local agencies and governments. He specialises in development planning, training and organisational development. He holds an MBA in Marketing, and has wide international experience in leadership training, designing and implementing development projects, business and investment analysis, conflict management and socio-economics surveys.
Senior Consultant and Course Trainer
Silvia is a social development specialist and has been a senior consultant with IMA International since 2003. She specialises in monitoring and evaluation, participation, gender and communication and has extensive experience in training course design and delivery. Her overseas experience includes education training in Indonesia, and NGO project management in East Africa and West Africa. Before joining IMA, Silvia worked for the international NGO ACORD, managing projects, running participatory workshops with local partners and facilitating the development of numerous ACORD Africa-based policies. She has also worked as an adult education tutor for the University of Sussex in the UK.

Associate Consultant and Course Trainer
Anthea Dickie is a highly experienced M&E Adviser, with an MPhil in Agricultural Economics and more than 25 years of experience, specialising in public sector capacity building.
She has recently been working as Programme Director of the Support to Reforming Institutions Programme in Nigeria, funded by the EC. She has also worked in Ethiopia, Sudan, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Uganda, the UK and Zambia.
Consultant and Course Trainer
Sue Enfield has twelve years’ experience in the NGO sector and for several bilateral donors (DFID, Irish Aid, SIDA and DGCD Belgium). She worked for 12 years in Southern, Central and West Africa in disability and HIV. Sue has detailed experience of all stages of project and programme design and delivery and also in evaluation, policy and advocacy.
Consultant and Course Trainer
Chris Garforth has over 30 years’ international experience in research, consultancy and training. He has worked for IMA on institutional reform assignments in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and in 2009 contributed to the National Consultant Capacity Building Programme in Nigeria. He has a PhD in Land Economy. His current research includes the dynamics of rural livelihoods in Ghana, and farmers’ perceptions of climate and environmental change in China.
Managing Director
Chris Grose joined IMA International as a Senior Consultant in 1997 after 8 years working as a training and extension specialist in Nepal and Bangladesh. He became Managing Director of IMA in 2001 and has overseen a growing international team working on capacity development initiatives since that time.
Today, Chris’ primary role is in business development and strategic partnerships. When training and consultaing, his interests lie in organisational assessment and development, particularly in post-conflict and fragile states. Chris has overseas experience in Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Uganda.
Senior Consultant and Course Trainer
Anne-Marie joined IMA in January 2005 as a senior consultant to support business development, materials development and training. She has over 30 years' experience in operational and strategic management, including change management, business improvement, production management, project management, and all aspects of HRM including training design and delivery. She has worked in a variety of industries as well as in education and has an MSc in Business Responsibility and Practice.
Anne-Marie is currently working with several NGOs to help them improve their ways of working and the development of staff, as well as delivering scheduled and tailor-made courses around the world.
Associate Consultant and Course Trainer
David Hearle is a well-recognised strategic planning and institutions specialist with 30 years’ experience in Asia, Africa, Europe, South America and The Middle East. His experience as a Project Director, Consultant, Trainer and Team Leader covers a number of short and long term assignments for multilateral agencies, bilateral donors, NGOs and corporations. Sector experience includes Policy, Natural Resources, Engineering, Environment, Health and Education. As an educator and trainer he has been training and directing IMA courses in Australia, Botswana, Dubai, Kenya, Malaysia, South Africa, Thailand, and the UK since 1984.

Consultant and Course Trainer
Shaun Hext is a governance specialist, with core capacity development skills in leadership, strategic planning, and monitoring & evaluation. As a former Country Representative of Save the Children, Shaun has 15 years’ experience working with a range of international donors, government agencies and civil society partners at country level, often in complex post-conflict governance programming environments. Most recently Shaun has been working with DFID on programme design and evaluation processes in the UK and Central Africa.
Consultant and Course Trainer
Mick Howes is a former IDS Fellow and has worked in 17 countries. He is a Social Development specialist with a particular interest in rural and participatory development and NGOs. He has recently completed a study of Community-led Total Sanitation for DFID, and an evaluation of a Practical Action project in Bangladesh. He has also helped develop IMA’s increasingly popular Results Based M&E Systems workshop.

Consultant and Course Trainer
Dena Lomofsky specialises in planning, monitoring and evaluation with a focus on the learning organisation and participation. Dena is the Managing Director of Southern Hemisphere Consultants based in Cape Town, and her expertise covers training, facilitation and research. Recently she conducted a baseline study for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime with the Victim Empowerment Programme of Support to the Department of Social Development (South Africa). Dena has an MA in Social Development.
Senior Consultant and Course Trainer
IMA was delighted to welcome Catherine to the team in February 2007.
Catherine is a social development specialist with ten years of experience advising governments, and voluntary sector organisations. Her skills include monitoring and evaluation, social impact assessment, stakeholder and analysis, needs assessment, capacity building and the analysis of policy options and priorities.
Her most recent project experience includes establishing data management systems for a number of international non-governmental organisations; successful proposal design and development for the European Union human rights commission; impact assessments in Indonesia and India; training on various management tools including logframes. Her experience ranges across a number of different donor groups including DFID and USAID.
Training and Development Consultant
Tristan Measures regularly trains on IMA’s scheduled courses, manages and facilitates tailor-made courses and responds to requests for IMA consultants.
He is a Monitoring and Evaluation specialist and has a Masters Degree in Applied Development Studies from Reading University. He has expertise in M&E, Aid Effectiveness, Governance and Development Communications. Before starting at IMA, he worked as a Peacebuilding Researcher in Sri Lanka, for the Research and Policy in Development (RAPID) unit at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) in London, and he has further overseas experience in Kenya, Nigeria, Peru, South Africa, and Uganda.

Sally Monkman is a development and management consultant with over 20 years’ UK and overseas experience. She specialises in organisational development, provides training in Programme and Project Management for a range of private, public and third sector clients and is an Associate Lecturer for the Open University’s Masters in Development Management.
Project Manager
Helena Raijas manages tailor-made training and consultancy projects as well as tender preparation and business development. She is a cultural anthropologist with long-term experience overseas in Lao PDR, and has also worked in Nepal, Kenya and Uganda with government counterparts, user committees, NGOs and CBOs.
Over the past two years, Helena has been consulting in Eastern Nepal on a Finnish government-funded environmental administration project to develop a Gender and Social Inclusion Policy and Action Plan.
Consultant and Course Trainer
Trevor Smallbone is a programme support specialist focusing on Financial Management and Budgeting. He worked in South-East Asia in the aftermath of the Tsunami on recovery programmes with the British and Australian Red Cross Societies, whilst also preparing accountancy professionals in Vietnam for
international qualifications and training the State Auditors. Based in Thailand, Trevor has worked with international relief organisations, and previously worked for INGOs in Southern Africa.

Julia Smith specialises in Performance Management Systems and builds the capacity of organisations and people. Julia originally designed IMA’s popular M&E course and often directs our training. She recently managed a project with WaterAid to strengthen regional teamwork and management effectiveness. Julia has experience in 19 countries and has a Masters in Social Development.

Consultant and Course Trainer
Patrick Spaven is a specialist in M&E for organisations and large programmes. He helps build Results-Based M&E systems and evaluates complex programmes and strategies. His recent clients include Commonwealth of Learning; Department of the Premier, Western Cape; and Partnership for Higher Education in Africa. He
has worked in over 30 countries and has three degrees in social sciences.
Associate Consultant and Course Trainer
Lesley Williams is a gender, M&E capacity-building, programme evaluation and research consultant. She has cross-sectoral experience in rural development, aquaculture, gender and HIVAids programmes in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Afghanistan. Lesley also worked as a Government-appointed Director of a State education company for 7 years during a period of public sector reform and was a Senior Lecturer in Strategic Planning, Marketing Communications, and Research Methods in New Zealand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. She is a qualified trainer, has a Doctorate based on micro-enterprise development in Indonesia and a first Class Honours Degree in SME development and gender. Her recent work includes gender mainstreaming and setting up an M&E framework for the Pakistan Ministry of Women’s Development, and has conducted research for IOM-ARC in Aceh Indonesia to enhance the cluster and coordination efforts for future reconstruction projects.

They ensure that we provide clients with the professional and friendly service they rely on and meet our business objectives.
Course Administrator
Luke Beasley joined IMA in April 2009 as Course Administrator. He is the first point of contact for all course enquiries, and processes all applications for scheduled courses. He handles course logistics, preparation of materials and provides administrative support to trainers and participants. He is also responsible for IT support within the IMA office.
Whilst working as a key member of IMA’s admin team, Luke is currently completing an NVQ in Business Administration through Central Sussex College. Luke has prior experience supporting a small Architectural firm in Lewes.
Operations Manager
Alexander Davey came to IMA International early in 2009, after living overseas for 18 years, the last 8 years of which he spent working for large relief and development organisations, mainly in Indonesia, but also in East Timor and Pakistan. He has worked in a variety of management roles with NGOs and UN agencies.
Alexander supports Chris and manages all aspects of the daily running of IMA International. He works with the whole team, supporting the growth of the company, maintaining and improving our high quality provision of services, and ensuring that our services are constantly improved in line with the latest challenges within the international development sector.
Course Administrator, South Africa
Hayley Friend lives in Cape Town and has worked in education and community projects.She is presently working in an NGO which specialises in training community developers. Hayley often helps host international teams staying in South Africa. Hayley has recently joined IMA and assists with our training courses
in Cape Town.
Marketing Coordinator
Ben Mitchell is an Affiliate Professional with the UK’s Chartered Institute of Marketing. His role consists of listening to market needs through market research, strategically planning how to meet those needs, enabling people to find our services, and helping to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
Ben’s role includes the overall management of all IMA’s external communications, from our website to our advertisements and brochure.
With experience working in the tailor-made training team, Ben has in-depth knowledge of IMA’s operations and how we work with clients to design suitable programmes. He has worked and travelled extensively in Southeast Asia and various parts of Africa.
Office Administrator
Oliver Spiers joined IMA in September 2009 as Office Administrator. He is generally the first point of contact for telephone enquiries. He is in charge of ensuring our office is well maintained and always stocked up on all stationery and supplies. He helps to prepare our course materials and makes travel arrangements for consultants and facilitators.
Whilst working as a member of the IMA admin team, Oliver is currently completing an NVQ in Business Administration through Central Sussex College. Before working with IMA, Oliver spent two years studying Sociology and one year working with a local landscaping expert.
Course Coordinator
Maren Thompson coordinates our courses, managing workflows and supervising participant enrolments. She also takes an active role in the Project Management Team, which has initiated a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Forum among UK-based organisations. Maren also supports the development and delivery of the M&E and Logframes courses.
Maren has an MA in Social Anthropology with Development. Her dissertation focused on education and children’s rights, based on field research in Bangladesh. Prior to university, Maren volunteered as a care worker in Peru.
Course Administrator, Southeast Asia
Orn-Anong Vasuratna, based in Bangkok, has worked with us since 2005. Her background is in natural resources and environment, and she has worked in NGOs and public sector. When Orn is not working for IMA, she works as a freelance
translator and interpreter, and runs a 'Nature Stay centre' in Northern Thailand.
Finance Officer
Jenny Viccars joined IMA in September 2009 as the Finance Officer. She is a Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and brings with her many years’ experience in Accounts. For the last few years she has been working for a similar company so has a wide knowledge of training company accounts.
Jenny’s role includes all aspects of Company Accounts.
