IMA Senior Consultant Julia Smith has been working internationally to support WaterAid's most Senior Managers for many years. The Senior Regional Teams found the IMA workshops had a marked impact on their capability and motivation for the task ahead of them. The Ethiopian Team in particular asked Julia to conduct a short programme for their in-country Team Leaders because they had recently restructured and wanted her support in energising managers towards their redefined roles.
A 3-day workshop was designed in close consultation with the Senior Team with clear learning objectives and carefully designed tasks to help those managers to explore and define their new roles. The workshop also gave the managers the chance to practice selected people management skills such as how to provide feedback to highly performing or low performing staff. At the end of the workshop, the group generated challenging presentations and specific communication to take forward with their Directorate. Julia facilitated the continuing process by holding a detailed de-brief with the Senior Manegement Team and remains in communication with them for ongoing support.
