Results-Based Monitoring and Evaluation for the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, South Africa

In February, the Provincial Government of the Western Cape, South Africa, chose IMA International as its partner to deliver a week’s capacity-building for its departmental leaders of monitoring and evaluation. The workshop was a key stage in the development of the Provincial Government’s Results-Based M&E system. The Government has identified 10 Strategic Objectives for its 5 year Provincial Strategic Plan, and its RBME system is being re-engineered to provide evidence of the achievement of the outcomes and outputs that align with these objectives. The Western Cape is the most advanced of the South Africa Provincial Governments in building RBME capacity.

The workshop was held at the Provincial Administrative Academy near Stellenbosch and was delivered by Patrick Spaven, IMA’s leading exponent of RBME, along with Faldie Esau of the South Africa Labour and Development Research Unit at the University of Cape Town, and the workshop facilitator, Zeenat Ishmail, the Chief Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Review and Reporting in the Department of the Premier.

IMA hopes to have a continuing relationship with the Provincial Government as it carries forward its ambitious RBME agenda.
