The Rehabilitation and Sustainable Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture Affected by the Tsunami in Aceh Province project responds to the critical post-tsunami needs of the fisheries sector in Aceh Province, Indonesia. Developed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with financial support and technical assistance from the American Red Cross and the World Wildlife Fund, the project was designed with substantial stakeholder consultation. It will be implemented in close partnership with the Provincial and District levels of the Indonesian Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. The project begins with a 3-month long Inception Phase, during which time additional data will be collected, and detailed work plans will be developed detailing the first year activities of this 3.5-year project. Support was provided by IMA International during this 3 month inception phase. Longer term support will be agreed as necessary during the life of the project through to 2010.
Provided advice and support for the inception task force in Banda Aceh and throughout Aceh Province. Particular focus on capacity building requirements of various stakeholder groups through working closely with the four project components of planning and coordination, fisheries co-management, aquaculture; post harvest and marketing.
