RBME Scheduled Course

The issue of systems for long-term programmes or entire organisations is increasingly important in development organisations. To address it, we have developed this one-week course, based on the principles of Results-based Management. It provides a simple, step-by-step approach for those seeking either to introduce a more systemic approach for the first time, or to overhaul and focus their current system.

Held at Brighton Racecourse, with panoramic views overlooking the sea and the Sussex countryside, and blessed with beautiful late spring weather, the latest round of the course secured the highest approval ratings we have so far achieved. Materials were strengthened in a number of key areas; participatory exercises were streamlined; and additional scope was created to link RBM&E to the specific organisational settings of those taking part. Representatives came from a wide range of backgrounds including: international NGOs and Human Rights Organisations; UN Agencies; Government Departments; and Private sector companies, with the diversity of backgrounds leading to a very exciting week, with much scope for mutual learning. Nearly everyone left with plans to review the architecture of their M&E systems in the light of what they had learnt; often starting from the application of the pivotal logic model technique.

The course was run by Patrick Spaven (Visiting Fellow at the Manchester Business School and former head of Evaluation at the British Council) and Mick Howes (former Fellow of the Institute of Development Studies). Drawing on the feedback received, we are now fine-tuning both content and training techniques for the next round in Brighton, England in September. We hope to see you there!
