People Skills Training for WaterAid, Southern Africa

Following our custom-built course in People Skills for Development Managers for WaterAid in East Africa last year, we have just completed a second week-long course for the South African Region in Pretoria from March 10th -14th. There are four country teams in this region based in Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia speaking French, Portuguese and English respectively, so we were a wonderfully rich cultural rich group!

The course included key topics of leadership, performance management, teambuilding, communications and change management. On the last day, the teams developed actions plans for their country organisation and shared them with each other to see if there were synergies between them.

Participants said they found working together within their country teams (and then with their colleagues across the region) gave them an opportunity to network and build strong relationships. The day following the course, they held a meeting to enable functional managers across the region to share experience and learning together.

The teams worked hard, had fun and said they learnt a lot. The trainers, Julia Smith and Anne-Marie Harrison, said they felt the same and, as always with WaterAid, felt it had been an honour to work with them! Our next course will be with the Asia Region in Kathmandu in May.
