People Skills Training for WaterAid, Nigeria

IMA were delighted to be working with WaterAid again, this time with their management team in Nigeria. The team there has recently restructured to enable it to achieve its 3-year strategic plan; and with some staff newly taking up management positions, this time was ideal to have a course in People Management skills enabling the team to bond together as well as learn some new techniques and ideas.

IMA worked with their Country Representative and HR Manager to identify which of the topics we had covered in our previous regional People Skills workshops, and what new elements were required. We were able to use much of the original material, thus keeping the costs down, and then added some topics that were of particular relevance to the Nigerian Team. This included practical sessions on time management, especially how to use e-mail effectively; together with a project management approach to getting work objectives achieved.

With an experiential focus in the workshop, the 19 participants were full of energy, open to new ideas and we had some very rich and challenging discussions on how the concepts and techniques can be used in everyday work. They were as energetic on the last day as the first and put together some very focused action plans.

Now back at work, we’ve heard that every day they speak about one concept, framework or technique they learnt during the course and how they are implementing it. What a great way to keep the learning alive!

As ever, the trainers (Anne-Marie Harrison and Steve Creffield) found working with WaterAid was a delight and we hope our partnership together will continue.
