People Skills Training for ARC Asia

IMA were delighted to work with the American Red Cross on a 5 day workshop on People Skills held in May, for the country teams working on the Tsunami Recovery Programme. The teams came from Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand and Maldives.

As the Recovery Programme is starting to reach its closing stages with the final programmes completing in 2010, there are many challenges for the teams in balancing the completion and embedding of the programmes while at the same time positively managing the staff’s concerns regarding their job security and next steps.

The workshop was developed after telephone discussions with senior managers of the participating teams, some of whom had also attended scheduled courses the previous year and were able to highlight which topics would be most useful to include.

The participants were all experienced managers and were able to share ideas and good practice between them.  It also enabled managers from the functions to work together on specific challenges they faced.
