National Consultant Capacity Building Programme

A suite of linked long term State-level programmes are being implemented in Nigeria to fulfil DFIDs commitment to support the more efficient and effective use of Nigeria’s own resources and to achieve the Millennium Development Goals: In support of this programme IMA International conducted a 5 day Training Needs Analysis, which led to the design of a 3 Course Training and In Country Support Programme to build the skills of national consultants working for the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN). IMA International has just completed the first phase of this programme; training 10 National Consultants from the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN) as well as 4 from the Partnership for Transforming Health Systems (PATHS II). The Programme involves the delivery of three 5-day courses and two 2-day workshops and is closely linked to ESSPIN milestones and is designed to support their achievement. The overall programme has four key learning objectives: 1. Understanding the qualities, skills and core competencies associated with being a consultant working in a supporting role to state partners. 2. Working effectively with the different actors including the federal, state and local levels, as well as with local partners. 3. Building the technical skills needed to perform their role effectively within the timeline of their programme. 4. Developing the core skills necessary to work effectively in teams, addressing different learning styles, organisational approaches, and cultural and religious backgrounds.
