Pretoria, March 2007
This was the first time IMA has run its popular Monitoring and Evaluation course in Pretoria, and ten participants attended.
Participants from Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, Kenya and Lesotho, representing both the donor community, international development agencies and the public sector worked together for two weeks covering key aspects of M&E in Development through presentations, participatory exercises, assignments and field work. The course culminated in a practical assignment where study teams were asked to critique the monitoring and evaluation system used by a local NGO. This required participants to draw on all their learning from the previous two weeks, helping to re enforce the learning in a practical environment and provided extremely valuable feedback to the NGO concerned.
In their spare time participants made the best of local amenities, visiting the large shopping malls, taking a tour of Johannesburg and Soweto, watching Development related films provided by IMA and sampling the local cuisine in some of Pretoria’s famous restaurants.
Participants' comments:
I have developed valuable skills and acquired very useful knowledge throughout this excellent training course that will be valuable in all areas of my programme management work. I think that I am in a better position now to contribute to positive and sustainable change in my work and for my employer.

The M&E in Development course really helped me to understand better the concepts of M&E. The topics cover all the elements of M&E in development. What makes it more interesting and educative is that it is a practical course and you can relate to your work throughout the course. I loved it!! Well done to Sam and Trevor for making it so interesting and mostly useful!!
Excellent course material. IMA has quality training material partnered with great facilitators. I would love to have another chance to be trained by IMA.
