Afghanistan, November 2010 – February 2011
Tristan recently completed a 4 month consultancy assignment at the Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Adviser to the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) in Afghanistan.
This consultancy wasprovided in partnership with GRM International, and as part of a seven yearDFID-funded project to provide Strategic Support to Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (SSPSRL). The project aimed to strengthen the capacity of the Afghan Governmentinstitutions concerned with agriculture and rural development, to formulate effective policies and strategies.
The overall objective of the consultancy was to provide technical M&E support to MRRD, and to build the capacity of senior Ministry monitoring staff through a combination of formal or on the job training, and mentoring.
Other key elements of the work were conducting a review of the Ministry M&E System and providing M&E inputs insupport of the ministry’s change management plan. Finally Tristan worked with the Ministry to revise the role of the M&E Department and develop a capacity building plan focussed on supporting national M&E staff in their professional development to sustain the ministries overall reform process.
