Indonesia, February 2008
The fisheries sector in Aceh, Indonesia, was destroyed by the tsunami in late 2005. The FAO has been working with local government and the fishing community to rebuild and strengthen this sector.
IMA International was invited to prepare a tailor-made M & E training programme for local project staff and local government stakeholders. Four and a half days of introductory M & E workshops were prepared, with Log-Frame analysis, stakeholder analysis, change management, and data collection tools and techniques top of their agenda. An action-based adult learning approach formed the basis of all workshops, with games and group work a core part of this. The last half day was spent with senior management debriefing them about progress in the previous four days, as well as focusing on Project Managers roles in the M & E process and identifying issues for the successful integration of M & E systems in this FAO fisheries project. All participants felt that the workshops gave them a better understanding of M & E and practical tools that they could now use to fulfill M & E requirements.
