Issues in International Development Scheduled Course

A wonderful group of 13 participants from Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Nepal and the UK enjoyed our latest course in the UK exploring key issues being faced by development professionals.  Education, Finance, Food Security, Local Government Development, Natural Resources, Livelihoods, Forestry, Community Development, Communication and Health sectors were represented.  This dynamic group followed a fascinating journey through the main issues facing themselves and their colleagues today.  We started with migration moving onto human development and dimensions of poverty. Then came lively sessions on psychological perspectives on cultural change and climate change both utilising innovative training techniques and visits to nearby project sites.  The economists then enjoyed two days on aid mechanisms and globalisation, followed by issues around advocacy and the involvement of civil society in development.  Rounding up the course was a day on leadership and change with many exercises for the group on their personal development as well and finally the course debate which drew on all issues covered as well as participants powers of negotiation, research and presentation.

This course is aimed at development professionals involved in project and programme design, strategic planning and policy development.  Its objective is to provide an environment for participants to combine their existing experience with those of others in order to discuss, challenge and potentially make more informed and strategic decisions in the future.
