Institutional and Training Needs Analysis in the Earthquake Affected Areas of Pakistan

The devastating earthquake of October 2005 in Pakistan caused untold damage in that region.  IMA International have been working with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to identify institutional capacity requirements and particularly the training needs of organizations working to support livelihood rehabilitation throughout the affected areas of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Chris Grose recently completed his second visit to the region in February and March where he facilitated district level workshops to help prioritize training needs of many of the NGOs and Government line department staff in order for them to implement the livelihood rehabilitation strategy.  A key recommendation is to build on developing skills in the region focusing on continuous improvement.  There will be high quality training and other learning solutions such as coaching and mentoring linked to clear objectives.  Finally, the evaluation of training is also coming more into the spotlight and for this procedures and best practice will be established including action planning, follow up workshops and field observations to ensure learning is achieved and that more sustainable institutions are established to support the livelihood development of rural communities there.

Development of a training programme for the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) and its partners that will strengthen their capability to implement ERRA's Livelihood Rehabilitation Strategy in Earthquake affected areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and North West Frontier Province.
