Yemen Consultancy, July 2010 Development of Gendered Tools, Guidelines and Processes for the Ministry of Education, Yemen
The consultancy was part of the Basic Education Development Project within the Basic Education Development Strategy, a framework for the Ministry of Education to achieve the goals of Education for All by 2015, with a specific focus on gender equity. The objectives were to improve gender awareness within the Ministry of Education so that gender considerations are used in decision-making in the future, to engender selected aspects of the MoE’s tools, processes and policies, and for the Ministry to use these guidelines for putting gendered strategies into practice.
IMA International developed, designed and delivered four workshops in July. The participants were Deputy Ministers and Directors General from various education sub-sectors. The consultancy involved analysis of the gendered status of present tools, systems, standards, guidelines, processes and indicators; preparation of training materials; gender training for relevant sectors and units within the Ministry; the participants’ design of gendered tools and guidelines; and a final workshop to communicate gendered processes to Ministry and Basic Education Development Project stakeholders. The tools developed will be part of a planned ‘Girls’ Education Best Practice Manual’.
