Brighton, December 2006

Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Nigeria

Four participants from the Nigerian Ministry of Water braved the blustery November weather in Brighton to attend our course on Monitoring and Evaluation in Development. They came with a common core problem: how to improve M&E practices in their quality control department for the water and sanitation sector. Since they shared common objectives, our trainers were able to tailor session content to suit the group’s specific needs. Indeed, “receptability to participants’ requests” was highly rated by the group. During two weeks of intense discussion, visits and learning, they developed a stronger logical framework; practical tools; strategy ideas; clear action plans for returning to work and real motivation which they will use to ensure commitment for an improved M&E system. They also left with strengthened soft skills which are not so visible, but equally essential: improved team work and understanding of each other’s roles; greater understanding of qualitative development, and…… better bowling skills!
