Bangkok, December 2008
IMA ran their scheduled course for Effective Leadership in Bangkok from 24th to 28th November, with 10 participants representing 8 countries and 7 organisations: BRAC, WFP, Heinrich Boell, CBM, SNV, FAO and NACS. Some participants had previously attended IMA courses on other topics
This course focuses on leadership at an organisational level, introducing some challenging perspectives on sustainable leadership and including topics such as implementing organisational vision at values at all levels of the organisation, building trust and developing the capability of a learning organisation as well as practical techniques for developing and sustaining high performance teams and managing change.
Despite the distractions of the situation in Bangkok, we were extremely impressed by the extent to which participants maintained a very high level of engagement, entering into the discussions and interactive sessions fully and sharing insightful and practical experiences. Some close networks were formed, encouraged by the new “buddying up” approach we have introduced to give opportunities to participants to give personal support and “coaching” to one other person in implementing their action plan.
We very much hope to meet some participants again either on more scheduled courses, or through working with their organisations on tailor made options.
