February 2007
Heinrich Boell Foundation, requested IMA to train participants from 16 regional NGOs at their regional office in Chiang Mai. The course was designed to follow a logical progression through Development Planning, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation, with some key management issues being addressed towards the end of the second week. In addition an extra session on Policy and Advocacy was arranged at the participants request and attended by 15 participants in the evening of Tuesday 15th February. 22 participants attended from Thailand, Cambodia and Myamnar (Burma) and they left with even better skills and knowledge, which would be applicable to their own work contexts and issues. The majority of sessions were structured around an introduction to the topic followed by some applied group work and feedback. Groups were formed from participants working in the same country, or in the same field, allowing the participants to apply tools and knowledge to analyse real situations, maximising the benefits from the course. This was particularly useful during the sessions where participants examined relationships between key stakeholders, identified and analysed problems, and identified possible development objectives and indicators, since they were able to work on real situations. Where generic lessons were to be learnt, groups were mixed up to help re- energise individuals and to provide a fresh dynamic to the exercise.
