Social Development and Capacity Building in the Niger Delta

For many years, oil producers have provided a series of basic development services to communities affected by their oil exploration and extraction activities in the Niger Delta region. These initiatives have only proved partially successful, and attempts are now being made to move towards a more comprehensive and sustainable approach, much of which will be administered through partners in the government, non-government and private sectors. Ultimate success will depend upon a comprehensive package of capacity building activities working at a range of different levels. IMA is helping to determine more precisely what is needed and will then be responsible for coordinating the provision of the inputs that will be required.
