What experience do I need to join an IMA course?

You will need to be actively working in the field of development, whether working for government, NGOs, multilateral organisations or the private sector.
Specific requirements for each course can be found under the “Who Should Attend” section on the Course Fact Sheet. We will be happy to send you a Course Fact Sheet, simply e-mail us and indicate the course in which you are interested.

What documentation do I need to submit to enable me to be enrolled onto a course?

1. Completed online application form (see link on the right)
2. Confirmation of sponsorship on official headed paper, signed by your sponsor. You can e-mail or fax this through to us.

What level of English do I need for your courses?

All our scheduled courses are trained in English. You need to have good spoken English skills so that you can share learning with other participants and so that our facilitators can work effectively. Much of the content of our courses is technical and our approach is participatory, which means you need to be an effective communicator in English.

Your English needs to be of an Intermediate standard or higher (or an IELTS score of 6 or above).

I don't have a sponsor. What should I do?

Our participants are generally sponsored by the organisation for which they work, and if you don't have a sponsor, you will need to research this yourself.
Although we are always looking for new ways to assist participants financially with the course fee, we regret that IMA International currently does not offer any form of sponsorship or funding, nor do we have a list of potential sponsors for you to approach.

Does IMA provide sponsorship or scholarships?

No, unfortunately, IMA International does not provide any form of financial assistance; most of our participants are sponsored by the organisation for which they work.

We do offer discounts for early payment and for groups of participants. See course fact sheets for details.

How should my sponsor make payment of the course fee?

Upon successful review of your application form and confirmation of sponsorship we will issue full enrolment documentation which will include an invoice for the course fee. Full bank details can be found on the invoice to enable payment by electronic bank transfer.
Full payment of course fees should be received at the latest, one month prior to the course start.

Can my sponsor pay in US Dollars or another currency?

We prefer payment in Pounds Sterling; however are able to accept payment by bank transfer in US Dollars. If your sponsor would like to be invoiced in US Dollars, please clearly indicate this upon submission of the “Confirmation of Sponsorship”.
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to take payment in other currencies.

Is accommodation included in your prices?

From 2008, we have made the decision to no longer include accommodation with our courses. This is to offer greater flexibility to our participants in choosing the kind of accommodation they require, for the dates they need. This is also easier for participants who need to pay accommodation costs from daily allowance budgets rather than tuition budgets.
If you need help in finding accommodation, we can suggest suitable alternatives at or near the training location for each course - please ask for details.

When and where should I book accommodation?

You should book your accommodation when you receive your Joining Instructions which are sent four weeks before the start of the course. These will contain a list of suggested hotels near the training venue.

Do you offer any group discounts?

Yes. Please see our fees and discounts page (link on the right).

Do you offer other courses, apart from the ones shown here?

In addition to our worldwide scheduled courses, we can offer training courses in any area of international development, wherever in the world you would like. See the link to tailor-made training and complete a planning form to see how we can assist you in your work.
